3 Reasons Why a Tooth Extraction Can Be Good for Your Smile

It’s only understandable if you get anxious about needing a tooth extraction. Each one of your teeth makes up your unique smile, but for some people, they need this treatment to preserve their oral health. It might seem odd, but it can be beneficial in certain cases. That’s because it helps get rid of the problems that are threatening their oral health. Here are three reasons why a dentist might recommend it for you.

1.)  Injury, Infection, or Decay

These three scenarios can range from mild to severe cases. If they are small, then you can usually get another treatment to fix them up, such as a filling or root canal. However, if the issue is severe, then the tooth’s structure might’ve taken enough damage that it cannot be saved. Instead, having it pulled can get rid of the problem and help your smile begin to recover.

2.)  Advanced Gum Disease

This condition is an infection in your gums. It can happen when bacteria build up along the gumline, but the early signs of this condition may not be too worrisome. You may have some inflammation and noticeable redness, but it can spiral into a serious problem! When left untreated, it turns into advanced periodontitis.

Here, your gums may start to recede, but your jawbone tissue may also weaken. A tooth can become loose and painful, so removing it can help give you relief sooner.

3.)  Prepare for Another Treatment

Last but not least, the tooth up for extraction may not have any issues, but rather another treatment calls for it. For instance, clear aligners can help correct overcrowding, but if it’s severe, then there may not be enough room for proper movement. By getting this procedure, you can then have enough space to get orthodontics.

Dentures are also another option that may call for a tooth to be pulled. If a patient only has one or a couple of natural teeth left, then having them removed can allow them to get a full prosthetic. This may give them a better experience than if they opted to get a partial.

In the end, the reason you need an extraction can be cleared up by your dentist! They have a good understanding of your smile, so they can give you an explanation for their recommendation. By hearing them out and understanding the impact not getting this treatment can have, you can feel confident knowing you are making a good choice for your smile.
